The Armtrac C-IED Mine Roller System

The Armtrac C-IED Mine Roller System

A mine roller is a device attached to an armoured vehicle including tanks that initiates victim-operated explosive devices on the route taken by the vehicle. It is a type of mechanical demining equipment used to clear landmines, IEDs and other unexploded ordnance (UXO) on an intended route or area where there is a possibility, rather than a probability, of victim-activated explosive devices being present in areas of current or former conflict.

The Armtrac C-IED Mine Roller System consists of a series of wheels or rollers on a frame which is reinforced by additional weights. In addition, to avoid adding too much weight to the system, weight is transferred from the vehicle using hydraulics to ensure there is sufficient weight to activate the fuse within an explosive device As the vehicle moves forward, the rollers detonate or physically damage any mines in their path.

Mine rollers help protect soldiers, land clearance operatives and civilians from explosive devices hidden in the ground. They are also used to prove logistic routes to allow the delivery of essential aid to isolated villages and settlements cut off due to local civil wars and conflict.

They are an essential tool for humanitarian work to assist in area reduction in Suspect Hazardous Areas (SHA). Military forces also use them to prove troop movement paths and protect soldiers from landmines.

The Armtrac Roller System: A Safe and Effective Way to Protect Vehicles from Victim-Operated Devices

The Armtrac Mine Roller is a state-of-the-art mine roller that military and civilian organizations use worldwide. It is a reliable and effective way to reduce the threat from mines and IEDs and protect people from harm.

The Armtrac Mine Roller has several features that make it an ideal choice for mine clearance:

  • It can be used at high speeds
  • It can be used in a variety of terrain
  • It is durable and can withstand the harsh conditions of mine warfare
  • It is highly effective at clearing mines, even in rugged terrain
  • It is lightweight and easy to transport
  • Protects vehicles from the effects of victim-operated devices

Our Mine Roller is a valuable tool for mine clearance and humanitarian assistance. It is a safe and effective way to protect people from the dangers of hidden landmines and explosive devices in areas of former conflict.

Construction information

The Armtrac Roller System is a full-width proving device that uses two wheel banks, each comprising seven rollers. Each roller wheel is made from a polyurethane composite and is puncture-proof. The left and right roller banks (of 7 rollers) are identical and interchangeable; they swivel 360 degrees when reversing without interfering with each other.

The steering system can articulate the Roller left or right, allowing the system to negotiate moderate corners while protecting the prime mover's entire width. The linkage arrangement allows each roller wheel to articulate over undulating terrain.

In a significant explosive event, the complete roller bank sheers off the main frame at the weakest point and can be easily replaced by another roller bank. More minor explosions will only damage a single roller which can be replaced.

Our roller system can be effectively used at up to 50 KPH when fitted to the Armtrac 100 and at lower speeds with tracked Armtrac vehicles, but another self-weight version of the Roller System can also be used with APCs or MBTs.

When used with the Armtrac 100 or other Armtrac tracked variants, hydraulic power from the host vehicle transfers up to 2000 Kg of weight onto the roller wheels to generate sufficient force to trigger any victim-operated devices present. The rollers can be lifted off the ground for greater speed and flexibility when not route-proving.
