Armtrac has just won a contract to supply 7 x A20T Mk2s with tiller to the Colombian Army Demining Brigade No 1 to assist with humanitarian demining and clearance of Explosive Ordnance (EO) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) left from the conflict with FARC. The Tender was issued by Agencia Presidencial de Cooperación Internacional de Colombia, which is the Colombian Presidential International Cooperation Agency. The Bid was awarded on 15 April and contract signed on 27 April 2021 to be delivered by the end of this year. These are not the first A20T Mk2s to be deployed to Colombia. Norwegian Peoples Aid (NPA) used 4 of these machines to undertake similar clearance in Colombia which were supplied in 2016 and used for 4 years there. NPA have now redeployed 2 of these machines to Cambodia and Iraq. Armtrac refurbished all 4 machines and 1 x has been sold to the HALO Trust for operations in Armenia.
Armtrac has also been in negotiations with the Philippines Army for a Bomb Search and Clearance Vehicle termed locally as a “Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector (VMMD)”. Following an MOU and Special Implementing Arrangement (SIA) signed at Government level, the Bid was awarded on 5 January 2021 and contract signed in April 2021 for 4 x VMMDs for delivery in 2021/22. The VMMD, based on the Armtrac 100-350 Mk2, provides the capability to accommodate two operators within the armoured cabin to operate a vegetation cutter on the rear robotic arm to clear high vegetation on roadsides and a detector on the front robotic arm to detect the IEDs together with a paint marker to indicate the position. A small excavator bucket, fitted to the rear robotic arm in place of the vegetation cutter, allows some excavation of earth for exposure of buried EO.
