Benefits and Uses of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)

Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV’S) are vehicles that can function on the ground without the need for a human’s presence on board.  These vehicles are controlled remotely and are used to ensure there is a safe distance between the operator and the possible danger. UGVs have been used in war-torn countries, areas that are in dangerous and vulnerable states, and places with unexploded devices and landmines that need to be identified, removed or cleared.

Armtrac is a supplier of unmanned ground vehicles that designs and manufactures high-quality UGVs to help Governments, companies, businesses, and individuals to safely carry out Conventional Demining, EO Clearance Operations and Counter-IED Operations in dangerous or hazardous areas in a safe and proficient way. Armtrac provides safe, high-quality and innovative mechanical equipment that offers value for money.

How Are Unmanned Ground Vehicles Beneficial?

Although UGVs are operated without the need for humans to be on board, the vehicle operates only when it is in direct contact with the ground. The biggest and most apparent benefit of a UGV is that it is much safer in risky and dangerous situations.

UGVs help in countering the threats from Explosive Ordnance (EO) that includes improvised explosive devices, and landmines.

Armtrac offers excellent quality mechanical solutions by utilising remote-controlled technology. An operator’s cabin is included in some larger vehicles to offer a clear view of the clearance operation. These machines utilise hydraulic couplings for quicker and easier attachment of engineering and counter-EO toolkits. These vehicles can mitigate the EO’s effects and function in secondary construction and engineering roles as well.

Recommended UGVs

Here are some efficient UGVs you can use:

  • A20T Robot is a completely remote-controlled, cost-effective, and flexible UGV, which can be fitted with numerous toolkits, like a rear excavator and demining flail.
  • A75T-230 is a vehicle that can be configured as both a Manned Ground Vehicle (MGV) with a cabin and UGV with or without a cabin. Both options include a remote control system, allowing the vehicle to be operated as a UGV even if it has a cabin. This machine can operate heavy construction and/or engineering toolkits using a telescopic boom arm.
  • A400 is a more powerful and larger version of A75T-230 and is always configured with  a cabin. It has a remote control system that enables the vehicle to be operated as a UGV. The telescopic boom arm allows for heavy construction and/or engineering toolkits to be operated with this machine.
  • A100-350 Mk2 is a wheeled machine with a Cabin. This can operate in many different configurations from demining, high risk engineering or C-IED using different toolkits.  The great advantage of a wheeled machine is its ability to move independently from one site to another and move relatively quickly along routes in a route proving capacity.  When there is a direct and high intensity kinetic threat to the operator, this machine also has a remote control system to allow it to operate as a UGV. One of the most versatile systems within the Armtrac Inventory, this model can become a High Mobility Engineer Equipment (HMEE) with a large front loading bucket and a rear excavator for digging out suspect devices.
