People's lives are still being lost to landmines left behind from areas of former conflict, even in peacetime. With more than 60 countries worldwide still affected by landmine threats, thousands of people's lives or physical health are at risk as they go about their everyday life.
Land contaminated by landmines is also depriving local communities of space that could be put to good use for infrastructure, house building or food production. A feeling of insecurity over land use can remain for many years following the resolution of a war or conflict, much to the detriment of the well-being, safety and prosperity of the local community.
The worry and stigma over hidden landmines remain strong, and if not carefully disposed of, these hidden hazards to life and safety will remain active for many years. This is why working with Armtrac and using one of our many unmanned landmine disposal solutions is the most efficient ways of clearing an area of threats without risking the lives of those tasked with their detection and removal.
Landmine disposal options from Armtrac
With each landmine hidden in the ground meaning another risk of lost life or danger, it makes sense to choose a landmine disposal system that doesn't involve direct contact with unexploded devices and enhances the overall clearance methodology.
Ground crews tasked with the ground clearance of former areas of conflict face all sorts of challenges, including caches of ammunition and active landmines, which is daunting for all concerned. There are so many obstacles faced when reclaiming land, opening up former road links and clearing derelict buildings on the outskirts of towns that it is very challenging to do without involving a wide range of different clearance methods.
Armtrac offers a range of landmine disposal solutions that will enable large-scale ground clearance and safe clearance of landscapes that may be filled with overgrown scrubland that conceals live landmines. Our landmine clearance vehicles and toolkits work best in areas with a known or suspected risk of hidden landmines and other unexploded ordnance.
Remote-controlled landmine clearance vehicles
We have designed and built a range of crewless landmine clearance vehicles that use bolt-on tools to help remove the risk of human harm from direct contact with unexploded devices. For example, the Armtrac 20T C-IED Robot is an ideal vehicle to clear landmines using tools such as a mine comb to lift mines from shallow soil for safe disposal or to detonate in place, whichever is the most effective choice.
If you want to re-open a road link through a formally occupied area where you suspect there may be hidden landmines and anti-vehicle mines, using the mine comb is a way of lifting these devices clear of the roadway without detonation and causing craters or damage to the route.
The Armtrac Roller System is a good solution for a route scheduled to be released back into use especially where there is only a possibility of landmines or IEDs being present. It is a valuable tool where you suspect there may be hidden explosive ordnance including landmines. The Roller uses hydraulic power from the host vehicle, which transfers up to 2000 Kg of weight onto the roller wheels to create enough force to trigger any hidden landmines under the ground.
